Denni's Survey

What was the first book that left a lasting impression?

"Monmouth Harry" by A.M. Maugham.   A novel of the life of Henry V of England.   First read when I was about 12 or 13 and I still read it about every 4 or 5 years.   Although a novel, it sparked my lifelong interest in things historical.

Which book would you recommend to a teenager reluctant to try literature?

First a little one:  "Jonathan Livingstone Seagull" and discuss it after.

Then:  "To Kill A Mockingbird"

When was the last time you laughed?

About an hour ago, at Choir Practice.   The Christmas stuff is coming together, but there are still a few rough spots, and the basses had a hard time tonight.

We're a cheerfull bunch.

Which contemporary author do you think will still be read in 100 years time?

Umberto Eco, I hope;  Stephen King probably.

What were you doing at 8 am today?

Flip to page 21, paragraph 2 in the book closest to you right now, what does it

 say?

"Soon after Columba's missions, emissaries arrived in Britain quite independently from Rome to convert the kings of the new Anglo-Saxon kingdoms in the south.   Augustine made for the court of Aethelberht of Kent in 597, and Paulinus, a tall, stooping, ascetic figure, was later sent to Edwin of Northumbria, who was converted to Christ in 627......"

What is the most romantic thing a girl/guy has ever done for you?

Asked me why I didn't look at him while I was talking to him;  I turned to him and got caught up in the most romantic kiss of my life!   Never to be forgotten!

If you could invite three fictional couples to your own house for dinner, who would they be?

Wow!   Fictional Couples!      Samwise Gamgee and Rosie Cotton:   Oberon and Titania:   and just for fun - Lestat and Louis

Do you sleep with your bedroom door open or closed?

Open for free comings and goings of resident cats, you know, the owners!

What is your current desktop picture?

Edinburgh Castle by floodlight.

  • Thank you, JaneofGaunt, for answering my survey. :)

You are right, "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a great choice, how could I have missed it? I'm glad to see you're counting on Umberto Eco too, for making it throughout the century. He's a very fine author and some of his works deserve to be known and remembered.

And WOW! - excellent romantic moment ;)
