Amazing People

I wish to discuss amazing people.  Now, as far as I am concerned, people in FT are always amazing.  However, the people I wish to discuss are the new landlord and landlady.

Today, we picked up the keys.  The lease does not begin until December 1, 2008.  The minute the lease was signed, the landlord said, "ok, start moving stuff in".  We explained we were still packing and planned to have movers do the hard work.  The landlord replied that we could start bringing anything we wanted over starting today.

Next, we were given 12 preaddressed, prestamped envelopes in which to mail the rent.  The furnace filters are provided by the landlord and landlady.  When we are down to one, we just let them know and they will supply more.  Now, if that was not good enough, we were also provided with the current newletter for the complex, the rules and regulations and any emergency numbers we might require just in case we can't reach the landlord or landlady.  Yes, that means we even have the name of their plumber.

Ok, then we discover more wonderful things about the townhouse.  We actually have a pantry, plenty of cupboard space and room for everything.  Add to that two, yes two, linen closets.  The only rooms which are not fully carpeted are the kitchen and the garage and the utility room...oh and the room where the washer and dryer live.

We took our garage shelving units over this afternoon.  They are easy to dismantle and fit in our car.  (We suspect our car thinks he is an SUV.)  There was barely room in our present garage for the shelves and the car.  Well, I can rollerblade in the new garage and would not hit anything.

The whole townhouse was cleaned top to bottom.  It looks wonderful.

We toured the neighborhood.  Grocery stores are close and across the street from each other.  There is a hospital close to us and with all the medical buildings around, it will be easy to find a new doctor.  Plus, there is a dentist like the dentist I have who takes care of me when I break teeth.  I plan to ask our current dentist if he knows this other dentist and what he thinks of his work.

We also discovered our auto mechanic has a location over by the new place.  Then add "Big Lots" and a few restaurants and pubs....well, allow me to state that pretty much every "wish" has been granted.

Oh, I almost forgot.  Normally, the lease is done in 6 month periods.  However, we were given the option of 6 or 12 months.  We were also advised that many residents do volunteer work around the complex in order to keep HOA fees down.  That is just dandy with us.  After all, when we lived in a townhouse up North, we always would shovel the snow off of the sidewalks and stairs.  We had many neighbors who used this area and we did not wish them to fall.  We advised the new landlord/lady of this fact and were told we will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I must go.  I have so much grime on me, I think if it rained on me, there would be streaks.  How did I get so dirty?  I spent part of today goofing off.  Yes, I did.  I was so burned out from working so much that I needed a day to just play.  We accomplished much but also had some fun.

Then we came back to the old place to discover one of the new neighbors had completely blocked our garage and all the other garages connected to our garage with a car in which they were replacing brakes.  There was the dismantled car and three other cars.  Needless to say, I removed myself from our car and had a nice chat with the so called mechanics.  As this is not the first time this has happened, I was not cuddly.  I, basically said, move the car in front of our garage or I will have it towed.  From the tone of my voice and the look on my face, a call was immediately placed to the owner of said car.  He came running.  The new neighbor who has been acting like the south end of a north facing mule appears and says "sorry".  I said "bite me".  Yes, I was not neighborly.  Frankly, I have had it with him and his collection of cars.  We are each allowed two in the complex...not four.  Plus, every time he opens his garage, more of his mess moves out into the parking lot.  As of right now, the dismantled car remains outside of three garage doors and I do not want to be around when those residents return home.  I was calm compared to how they like having their garages blocked over and over by this dude.  For a guy in his late 40's, his friends all are 18 to 21.  I will not miss him.

Ok, the dirt must go and so must I.  More soon.

  • You deserve this. The new place, I mean - not the idiots you're leaving behind.
    Yippee. :)

  • Seems to me you've hit the jackpot. How marvellous to have civilized (and civil) landlords.

Wishing you an uncomplicated move and much happiness in the new abode.

    Hugs

  • I'm so glad you found a nice place with people who behave like they care about the place and the people. Good for you to put him in his place. He won't learn probably but at least he knows people will stand up to him.
    Have a good day!
