Those who cannot remember...

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."  The philosopher George Santayana wrote these words in 1905.  One hundred years later his words resonate, as the United States finds itself bogged down in another war.   (Yes, I know it seemed like a good idea at the time.)  As 2006 came to an end, over three thousand American men and women had lost their lives in Iraq, along with all the losses from all the other countries involved.  As we begin a new year, we can only hope that this nightmare will end soon.

US Elections-Tuesday's the Day

I hope that everyone in the US eligible to vote on Tuesday will do so.  It's so very important-this may be one of the most important elections in a long time.  The composition of the Congress and the Senate is at stake.  Not happy with the war?  Don't agree with the President's economic policies?  Feel like US foreign policy is an embarrassment?  Vote!  Happy with how things are going in our country?  Think Mr. Bush has done a good job?  Then by all means vote to support him.  Just vote.  Think your vote doesn't count?  Ask Al Gore.

We have young men and women dying in Iraq every day.  We need to clean it up and get out of there.  How to do it?  Who has the answers?  You decide for yourself-but vote.  It's  the only weapon you have, the only power.  There was a presidential election in Nicaragua yesterday.  People lined up for hours to vote, and some were even turned away.  They know that their vote is precious.  Please don't throw yours away.
